Our Mission
Our mission is twofold: We seek to improve the everyday lives of people living in Puerto Rico by amplifying the voice of the Puerto Rican Diaspora on the mainland. We also empower youth and adults by teaching advocacy fundamentals and effective storytelling skills and how they can be used lifelong to create positive change in their communities and beyond.
Our Vision
BoricuActivatEd® is a nonprofit that seeks to empower diverse and underserved communities and is open to all participants regardless of age, race, religion, gender, or sexual preference. Donors, grants, and partner organizations fund our services.
Our Name BoricuActivatEd®
“Boricua” is a Spanish word derived from the native Taíno word “Boriken” (the great land of the valiant and noble Lord) often used as a synonym for Puerto Rican. Our name, BoricuActívatEd, encompasses the group we want to reach (“boricua” on the U.S. mainland), what we want to achieve (“activating” them to amplify their voice) and how we will achieve this goal (“Ed,” through education and community engagement).
