“Boricua” is a Spanish word derived from the native Taíno word “Boriken,” (the great land of the valiant and noble Lord), and is often used as a synonym for Puerto Rican.
Our name, BoricuActivatEd, encompasses the group we want to reach (“boricuas” on the U.S. mainland), what we want to achieve (“activating” them to amplify their voice) and how we will achieve this goal (“Ed,” through education and community engagement).
