BoricuActivatEd’s 7th anniversary event was a tremendous success.  The sold-out evening held on September 25 in Washington, D.C. was attended by numerous elected and appointed officials, BoricuActivatEd board members and supporters, as well as by honored guests.

To put it succinctly: it was an epic celebration.

We were honored to be joined by several of our champions from Capitol Hill, including Congressman Darren Soto (D-FL), Congressman Brendon Boyle (D-PA), and Congressman Jimmy Gomez (D-CA), each of whom addressed the assembled crowd.  In addition, a letter of congratulations was sent by Senator Bob Casey (D-PA).

Among the BoricuActivatEd board members in attendance were Nilda Ruiz, Eduardo Bhatia, Jacer Collins, and Arturo Vargas.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of BoricuActivatEd’s first-ever awards to two outstanding individuals who have made enormous contributions to the organization and to the Latino community as a whole.  Rev. Luis Cortez, CEO of Esperanza Academy in Philadelphia, was the recipient of BoricuActivatEd’s first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.  Artist,  graphic artist, and author Antonio Martorell received the organization’s first-ever Artistic Visionary award.

“The evening exceeded all of our expectations,” said Jennice Fuentes, founder of BoricuActivatEd.  “To be joined by so many friends and allies shows just how far we have come in seven short years.  We were proud to recognize unique individuals and to be joined by outstanding leaders from Washington and across the country.”

“In truth, the evening was a reminder of the hard work performed by every BoricuActivatEd volunteer, supporter and participant since 2017,” she added.
