BoricuaActivatEd is the proud recipient of a generous $12,500 grant from the Joseph H. and Christine M. Walter Fund of the Philadelphia Foundation. The funds will be used to bring BoricuActivatEd’s educational method of empowerment, leadership development, and civic engagement to additional schools in Philadelphia.
This latest level of support builds on a $10,000 grant awarded by the foundation last year.
“This is an honor for us, especially as it enables us to grow and maintain our relationship with the Philadelphia Foundation. It also validates the work we have performed in the city of Philadelphia,” says Jennice Fuentes, founder of BoricuActivatEd.
This year’s grant will enable BoricuActivatEd to expand its educational programs on the fundamentals of advocacy to additional schools. For the past four years, the non-profit has partnered with the Reverend Luis Cortés and Esperanza Academy to provide training to young people in Philadelphia and to introduce participants to elected officials in their area.
Recently, BoricuActivatEd has taken its educational program to Arlington County, Virginia, and Los Angeles and Orange County, California, among other places.
BoricuActivatEd has had an office in Philadelphia since 2023,
thanks to the generosity of the Asociación de Puertorriquenos en Marcha (APM).
